This information is from 2014. It’s mostly outdated now, but we’re going to keep it on display for posterity~
How old are you, and where were you born?
I'm 23 years old, and was born in the Philippines. My family and I moved to California when I was 12 years old and lived there for 6 years. Currently, I've been residing in Canada for about 6 years now.
How long have you been playing the piano?
I've been playing the piano for about 10 years now, and hope to continue unless I have some kind of permanent hand injury that prevents me from playing.
Do you take piano lessons?
Actually, I'm completely self-studying the piano, and I have never taken any music theory or composition classes. Maybe when I graduate university, I might decide to enroll in some music classes to improve my own technique and style.
What are you majoring in university?
Interestingly enough, I'm majoring in psychology which has nothing to do with music at all. I wasn't able to apply to a music school due to my lack of music education.
What is the model of your piano?
My digital piano is a Roland HP-207 and my grand piano is a Yamaha C2.
What programs do you use to make your sheet music?
I use Finale 2012 to create my piano sheets. It's quite hard to get started due to the flexibility of the program, so do keep that in mind when starting piano arrangements and sheet music.
Do you have any advice on how to improve on piano playing?
For me, I actually don't practice scales or piano exercises. Instead, I encourage people to play what they want to play. Play piano arrangements from video games, movies, anime, or whatever genre that will allow you to enjoy the instrument. But even though I self-study the piano, I still do recommend beginners to enroll with a piano teacher — it will make your life easier especially when you're just starting.
Good luck! :D
